help with disney world vacation?
I am going to orlando florida in december and we are planning on speniding a wee there. Dec 28-jan 4th. We want to stay on disney property but are having a hard time deciding wich property to stay at. Does anyone have a good recommendation(personal experiance) for any resort. We are looking more towards budget value resorts but I would like to hear about them all -good and bad. Also any sites for cheap park tix or anything with a discount can help .
First of all you are making a very wise decision. The best and only way to visit the Disney parks is to stay on property. There is no other way to get the unbelieveable perks they offer to their resort guests, and with the time of year you are going to be there those perks will come in handy. No matter which resort you choose, make sure to make the reservations ASAP. You are going to be there over the Christmas holiday, so it will be packed.
When you are setting up your trip purchase and book everything straight thru Disney. Contrary to popular belief, Disney actually keeps the best discounts for themselves so they can pass them on to the guests. You can check AAA or one of the other sites. The discount you get is very small if any, and trust me you end up not getting what you pay for. I think the operative phrase is “Buyer Beware!!” The rooms that do end up on a discount site are the rooms that have a horrible view or are the least desirable for one reason or another. That goes for passes as well. You are better off doing everything as a package, in terms of price and reliability. If you book straight thru Disney the cast members are trained to get you the most bang for your buck. I have always done everything thru them as a package and never been disappointed. I can’t say the same for a few friends of mine, however. They thought that by using a discount site they would save more money. They sure did, but didn’t get what they thought they paid for.
As for where to stay I think it all comes down to personal preference. You really can’t go wrong with any of the Disney resorts, whether they are value, moderate, deluxe or vacation club. If you are looking at the value and moderate levels of resort, my favorites in those categories are the All-Star Movies for the values, and the Caribbean Beach resort for the moderates.
The All-Star Movies resort is a wonderful place to stay (I have stayed here twice.) The themes and decor are great, each wing a different classic Disney movie. There is a huge pool, game room, and pretty good food court. The only real drawbacks are that there is no sit down table service restaurant and the rooms are on the smaller side, but that is really not that much of an inconvienience. For the values, the Pop Century is a very close second. The only thing that Pop has over All-Star Movies is that is does not share a bus line as the All-Stars do. Otherwise they are pretty equal in my book.
The Caribbean Beach resort is a great place to stay from the moderate level. The rooms are a bit bigger, there are multiple pools instead of just the one big pool, there is a sit down table service restaurant along with a food court, and there are many more things to do at the resort itself than at the values. If you decide you want a bit more room, go with the Caribbean Beach. We loved our stay there. The pool was huge and the staff very friendly.
I would suggest checking out two places for some really good info. First, go to the Disney website and use their resort comparison tool. You can see which resort is best for you. Also, check out the disboards. The disboards is a message boards website all about going to Disney. You can get resort reviews, restaurant reviews, opinions, tips and tricks all from people like you and me that go to Disney often and know what they are talking about. I put both links below.
Hope this helps, have a great trip!!
